Technical Team

We are passionate about aeronautics, profound expertise and attention to detail.

Enthusiastic helpers

Our technical workshop is a maintenance organization licensed by the European Aviation Agency and overseen by the German Federal Aviation Authority.
The Foundation has no staff of its own. The technical team is posted by Lufthansa Technik and works at the Foundation on an open-ended basis. It goes without saying that these are people who are inspired and passionate about the cause.

The Technical Operations Manager and his staff are nearly all licensed aircraft inspectors. During peak times – e.g. for maintenance in winter or for complex repairs – staff receive support from additional personnel from Lufthansa Technik. Added to this are numerous enthusiastic helpers who, as former Lufthansa Technik employees and members of Aunt Ju's original team, are still actively involved even at retirement age.

The workshop maintains the Ju 52 by following the same stringent guidelines that apply to modern passenger aircraft.

A specialist is always on site to take care of the daily routine checks. Every 60 hours in the air are followed by three days of maintenance work, mostly at Lufthansa stations. Then there is the thorough annual check. As the Ju 52 flies all over Europe during the season, annual check, maintenance inspection as well as major modifications and any repairs are scheduled for the winter months. Instead of a general overhaul once every few years, this work is evenly spread over time.
