11/2009 | Focus on engineering and materials
The team that is working in Auburn, Maine on the restoration of the Super Star L-1649A has largely completed its assessment work. Production capacity in the hangar in Auburn will therefore be cut back to about one-third with immediate effect, running through April 2010.
Whereas only a core team of local staff will continue to work in Auburn over the next few months, engineering work, certification processes and materials procurement will continue. This will ensure that production can ramp up rapidly on-site in April 2010.
In this connection the role of the internal staff involved in the restoration process will be strengthened. Following a suggestion from project manager Peter Struck that his position should be taken over by an internal manager, Dean Raineri, who also heads up the A380 introduction project, is taking over with immediate effect. He will be supported by Peter Struck, who will continue to be available for the project as needed.
